Elementary - For Parents

The Epilepsy Support Centre has developed “Thinking About Epilepsy” a program geared specifically for grade 5 students to teach them about epilepsy, seizure first aid, and the human body.

The purpose of this program is to educate children, dispelling myths about epilepsy, and making school a more accepting and comfortable place for those affected by a seizure disorder. We also teach seizure first aid practices, so students with epilepsy can feel safe, knowing that their peers know what to do when someone has a seizure.

Although our program is specifically geared to grade 5 students, we have variations of that program that can be used to educate children from junior kindergarten, up to grade 11.

On average we educate approximately 4000 children a year proving the popularity and effectiveness of our program.

We also offer Teacher-In-Services where we’ll educate school staff on epilepsy, seizure first aid, learning strategies, the side affects of medication and behavioral traits.

If you’re interested in what our agency can do for you or your child, suggest to your child’s teacher to have us in their school or classroom.
